Feeling weirded out yet? If so, then you might want to brace yourself because those are just a few of the crazy nail trends that popped up in 2018. See which nail designs are just way too over-the-top...
Uh... Is anyone else really creeped out by this? They look realistic enough to pass for genuine teeth actually growing out of a person's fingertips and that's just beyond weird. Perhaps this could work as part of a zombie dentist costume for Halloween. But as a regular, every-day design? Ehh, not so much. If you're still bold enough to try this one out at home, don't be surprised when you spot others cringing at the sight of your nails.
Imagine trying to go to the bathroom or take a shower with this kind of manicure! It's one thing to have a unique nail design, but it's another when that design prevents you from carrying out the most basic every-day functions. This honestly looks like it could be the hand of The Little Mermaid's Ursula (if she were in human form). But even though it's a bit much, it seems like a cool option to add for a costume.
Corkscrews are usually reserved for popping the corks from your wine bottles, but nail artists from Kiara Sky Nail Products were clever enough to use the tool as inspiration. If you take a look at their process on Instagram, you'll notice that it's pretty tedious and time-consuming. And if you're curious, that spiral extension is shaped with acrylic, using a small straw. Even though the idea is pretty cool (and we're obsessed with the rhinestones), it just seems like a hassle to maintain.
We've got some concerns about this one. First off, it looks pretty dangerous because those are actual sharp graters that work. Even the slightest gesture or hand movement could leave you - or your BFF - with scratches. Plus, it just doesn't seem sanitary. The amount of germs that could accumulate and linger in them is basically every germophobe's worst nightmare. So yeah, it might seem like a cool idea to use your nails to grate a block of cheese over your salad, but is it really worth the risk?
Just... WHAT?! We're not even sure if this should be considered "nail art," but having long hair extensions attached to your nails is simply not a good look. Trying to get through the day with hair hanging from your fingers actually sounds like a living nightmare. We could just imagine all the hair strands getting stuck in random places, like in your teeth when you try to floss or in your food whenever you eat. Even worse, imagine how much extra debris would be caught up in those strands of hair when you pick things up off the floor or go to the bathroom... *BARF*
If you thought that last trend was weird, get a load of this bizarre design. It's hair actually rolled up in tiny rollers and we still can't get over the fact that this manicure actually exists. If you're curious about the process, after the nails are already painted, rows of small tracks of hair are glued to each nail. Then, each piece of hair is rolled up in mini curlers (these were cut out and formed from larger curlers). We'd really love to know who thought this would be a good idea...
This person definitely gets bonus points for creativity. But though her artistic skills are impressive, this is just way too over-the-top. Doing something as simple as washing your hands or brushing your hair would be 10 times harder with these nails. Plus, while it may look cool to pour out a shot of Hennesy from that perfectly manicured nail, drinking it doesn't seem like the smartest idea. Especially if it's been hanging around in there for days. *Cringes*
For the record, yes, what you're seeing here are real dead insects, and yes, this is the stuff of nightmares. We don't know about you guys, but we could never survive wearing nail art like this. Just the sight of it would make us nauseous, and the thought of the polish chipping away, right along with pieces of the insect, just grosses us out. What we would try, though, are cute illustrations of cartoon bees on our manicures.
If you want to take your love of selfies to a creepy new level, then this one's for you. But don't be surprised if you get some weird looks. For this manicure, South Korean illusion artist Dain Yoon painted her own face on each of her nails. And here's the kicker: The hair that you see attached to them is actually her own hair. Is it creative and original? Definitely. But you've got to admit, it's also kind of disturbing.
Well hey, at least you'd have some erasers handy if you ever need to correct something written in pencil. Nail Sunny, a nail art chain in Russia, basically shaped these erasers and then glued them on to create the look. Plus, it turns out those "eraser nails" are actually sturdy enough to be used. They don't look too comfortable and they're probably not ideal for a DIY manicure. But still, we can at least admire the creativity.
We get the feeling that Crayola would be major fans of this design. Nail Sunny also created this manicure by sculpting and shaping the pencils out of acrylic and adding actual points to make them usable. It definitely brings out our inner child and makes us want to color again. But on the downside, these seem risky and so so uncomfortable to wear. If you're still curious to know exactly how it was done, you can check out the video here.
Compared to the other nail art on this list, this design feels pretty tame. It's not dangerous enough to risk injury and you could most likely get through the day without completely destroying your nails. Plus, it's a super creative and fun idea to try if you're a sushi lover. However, we're a bit creeped out by the fish head on this person's thumb.
We're not gonna lie, this manicure is beyond adorable. It's creative and the attention to detail is just perfect. But even so, we have some serious doubts about the practicality of this design. Those little skates could fall off in an instant while trying to run errands or perform tasks like texting. But on the bright side, they're definitely Instagram-worthy.
So maybe they're not as weird as this manicure with moving eyes from 2017, but they sure do come close. As you can imagine, the process it quite tedious, especially when it comes to gluing on those lash extensions. Though the concept is cool, we don't know about getting an extra set of tiny eyes on our fingers to stare back at us all the time.
Having sets of alien-like fingers (with manicures!) attached to your own nails as if they're growing out of them is just creepy. But you know what? This could be the perfect design to show off for Halloween, regardless of costume. It's not your typical DIY nail art, but hey, it's worth a try.
This is pretty cool because it's like having mini aquariums on your fingertips, except without the fishes. But considering the fact that they could possibly leak and spill at any given moment, they're not ideal to keep (especially if you work with technology all day). It's also worth mentioning that they could be a huge hassle to maintain, especially if you're active.
Remember that adorable pic that Kylie Jenner shared of her daughter Stormi's hand wrapped around her thumb? Well, it inspired this manicure and it's basically horrifying. Nail Sunny used what appears to be mini clay sculptures of Stormi's fingers and Kylie's thumb. Then, they carefully glued them onto one perfectly manicured finger and used a stick to position the baby's fingers. Everything about it is just really weird and slightly disturbing.
Is anyone else kind of grossed out by the fact that that's real milk in those nails? Sure, it's creative, but this is just insane. In their Instagram video, Nail Sunny revealed the entire process. After attaching a clear, spherical covering to the nail, they used needles to inject the milk. Then, they used the tips of mini rubber to create the bottle covers and painted a strip of blue. It's just so much work for a design that won't last. Also, what happens when the milk goes bad?!
