Alyson Stoner Shuts Down People Who Think She’s Transitioning Because Of Her Haircut
What’s up with people these days? Actress, dancer, and singer Alyson Stoner took to Twitter this morning to shut down those who think she’s transitioning from female to male because she shaved her head. Gender is complicated people! And it’s definitely not defined by your haircut.
Alyson recently shaved off her long brunette curls, which had been a staple of her look ever since we saw her put it down, flip it, and reverse it in the music video for Missy Elliot‘s “Work It” in 2002. While we envied Alyson’s hair in Camp Rock and The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, we think that she’s totally rocking the shaved head look! Credit where credit is due! That’s not easy to pull off!
Now the actress is speaking out about the gendered stereotypes that often accompany certain kinds of hairstyles. “I’m sorry that my facial features, clothing and vagina don’t meet your qualifications for female woman” she told people who think that her haircut invalidates her gender. Way to go, Alyson!
And small chest. Don’t forget the small chest.

Friendly reminder that no one gender owns short hair, or long hair, or makeup, or dresses. There are a lot of ways to express your gender and individuality. Ultimately, the things we traditionally identify as feminine or masculine aren’t great indicators of our actual gender!
Alyson spoke out about her sexuality last year. She came out as bisexual in a moving essay published in Teen Vogue about love and acceptance. We’re glad that Alyson is using her platform to speak openly about gender and sexuality.
So do whatever you want with your hair! But maybe wait like 24 hours before you get bangs.
