Ariana Grande Has An Upside Down Xmas Tree & You Can Get One, Too

By  |

Can you “Imagine” how much effort it took to get Ariana Grande‘s Christmas tree on her literal ceiling? Ariana got into the holiday spirit while staying true to her ‘Halloween all the time’ apartment aesthetic by decorating with black stockings, black candles, and black presents that are inexplicably also on her ceiling somehow.

Ari explained her tree yesterday out and about on the streets of New York: it be like that sometimes. More specifically, she said, “Sometimes life just be upside-down,” and after the year she’s had, we can’t blame her for her festive-yet-emo outlook.

Ariana described this year as “one of the best years of my career and the worst of my life” in her Billboard Woman Of The Year acceptance speech, and if you don’t know what she’s talking about, congratulations on escaping the bunker you’ve been trapped in for the past twelve months!

“I look forward to hopefully learning to give some of the love and forgiveness that I’ve given away so frivolously and easily to men in the past to myself this year,” she continued in her speech, a feminist icon. “I have everything I’ve ever dreamt of having, and as of late I’ve discovered that it’s the things I’ve always had and the people I’ve always had that still make me the happiest.”

Apparently, her dreams included an upside-down Christmas tree, which gives off strong “No Tears Left To Cry” music video vibes but is also an old Central and Eastern European tradition dating back to the 1500s. In the 12th century, these trees were hung from the ceiling because it resembled the shape of Christ being crucified, and then the tradition carried on for centuries on and off for reasons that don’t relate to Ariana Grande at all so if you really care that much about trees, just read this Mental Floss article.

Ari isn’t Eastern European, just super Italian (Yes, she isn’t Latina! No, I can’t explain why she did a Spanglish-version of “The Way”!), so the tree is likely just trendy, but who knows. If you also want to be trendy, Home Depot sells upside down Christmas trees for a couple hundred dollars, which is way more reasonable than the thousand-dollar tree that Target thought it could get away with selling. As if!

Frankie Grande shared a clearer photo of the tree on his Insta yesterday, but now I’m just wondering if Ari waited until the week before Christmas to decorate her Zaha Hadid apartment. Side note: If rumors of her sixteen million dollar apartment are true, her building has a private IMAX theater, a spa, and a seventy-five-foot saline pool. Literally WTF.

Anyway, Ari proved she’s got Christmas spirit in a classic no-pants, big sweater outfit yesterday when she performed “Imagine” for the first time on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, where her live whistle tones single-handedly brought about world peace and won her a Nobel Peace Prize for being better than everyone else. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight (n go).
