Bella Thorne Details Tragic Experience With Molestation While Working For Disney
Bella Thorne has further discussed the claims that she was molested as a child in a new interview. The former Disney star has revealed previously that she experienced sexual abuse from “the day I can remember,” and in an interview for the promotion of her new book The Life of a Wannabe Mogul: Mental Disarray, she has opened up about her transition from being controlled by Disney to being able to live her life freely.
During her interview with BUILD, Bella was asked about her transition from working for The Mouse where she played CeCe Jones alongside Zendaya in Shake It Up. She said:
“The transition, it’s definitely tough. But it is what it is. It’s like anything in my life. If you read the book you’ll be like, ‘Haha transitioning from Disney to this was f*cking easy.’ I don’t know. Getting molested — for f*cking — from when you’re six to your 14, seems like way harder circumstances. You’re being physically abused all the time. Seems like a much more difficult situation than f*cking having paparazzi following you since you were 12.”
She continued, “I was still being molested when paparazzi were still f*cking following me. So it’s pretty hard in my mind to think of these big flashlight photographs, and everyone thinking they know me and talking about me, but having no idea the type of mistreatment that I was still dealing with at that time. That everyone around me saw and did nothing. So, I don’t know, you tell me what’s so hard. Because that to me is way harder than any of this other shit I deal with on a daily basis.”

Bella’s new book is a tell-all autobiography in which she reveals the struggles she faced as a young actress in the media. When asked what is the darkest topic she delves into in the book, she says the molestation she experienced as a child and also the death of her dad in a motorcycling accident when she was just nine years old.
This isn’t the first time Bella has detailed her abuse, having confirmed she was molested in a tweet reply to someone who asked “What did Disney do this girl?! I think she was molested,” back in 2017. In October 2018, she told the LA Times that she wonders if she is the way she is because of what happened to her as a child.
“I used to think of myself like Marilyn Monroe a little bit,” she said. “Everyone thought Marilyn Monroe was this sex symbol and she was always perfect and beautiful, but she was dying on the inside. I go back to that tweet, and maybe, in some [messed] up way, it’s right. Maybe I am this way because I was molested and raped when I was younger.”
Abuse allegations have been continuously made against Disney employees for some time now. This Twitter thread details claims made just recently. Bella has never named her abuser, however, we think her openness about the way she was treated as a child actor brings awareness to the issue of child abuse in the industry and we seriously applaud her bravery.
