Like so many stars before her, Demi Lovato has decided to delete her Twitter after posting a 21 Savage meme and facing harassment based on her struggles with addiction from haters who thought the joke was out of line.

ICYMI: rapper 21 Savage was taken into custody by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) after allegedly overstaying his visa in the U.S. since coming here as a teenager. Many pointed out that 21 Savage, whose birth name is Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, has long represented Atlanta — but that’s not necessary unfair considering he’s been in the country for over ten years.

Naturally, the incident birthed several memes and jokes on Twitter, particularly as the (boring as hell) Superbowl was taking place. Well, Demi Lovato thought some of the jokes were funny and posted about how “the 21 savage memes have been [her] favorite part of the Superbowl,: not realizing that Twitter would go up in flames if she did. Haters attacked the “Sober” singer, saying comments like “let’s pull out the heroin memes and see if this bitch gets emotional,” “crack is one hell of a drug,” and “Shut up Demi go and do more heroin.”

Wale also asked the star why someone else’s freedom is “funny” to her, to which she replied that he was “just salty [she] didn’t reply to his desperate tweets years ago.” She since deleted the post about Wale.

After deleting her Twitter, she posted an Instagram Story clarifying that she “[w]asn’t laughing at anyone getting deported” but that it was a meme about him using a feather pen that got her giggling. Also, like, as if everyone wasn’t laughing at these memes? Some of them already have tens of thousands of ‘likes’ and ‘retweets’ on Twitter, so clearly Dems isn’t the only “hypocrite” out there, as her harassers were calling her.

Other stars like Offset also claimed the jokes were going too far because the issues at hand are so serious.

Like we said, Demi is just the latest celebrity to take a Twitter hiatus after facing backlash that they felt took it too far. Lili Reinhart did hers a few weeks ago after she felt people were attacking her and her Riverdale castmates, and Normani swore off social media for a bit back in her Fifth Harmony days after Camila Cabello fans thought she’d dissed their queen and attacked her with racist comments, memes, and even photos. (FYI: all the 5H girls, including Camila, condemned the racism.)

Let’s just all get along — attacking each other is exactly was this administration wants us to do, and we’re so not here for it.
