Demi Lovato Gets Slammed For Calling Israel A “Magical Place” On Recent Vacation
Demi Lovato has opened up about her recent trip to Israel on Instagram and the response has been … less than positive. The 27-year-old singer took a trip to Israel where she was baptized in the River Jordan, visited the World Holocaust Center in Jerusalem, and also met with children at the Shalva National Center. Demi shared pictures of her trip with her 74.5 million Instagram followers but has since had to disable comments due to the amount of backlash she has received.
The criticism began after Demi posted this photo series to Instagram alongside a lengthy caption. She wrote: “I am an American singer. I was raised Christian and have Jewish ancestors. When I was offered an amazing opportunity to visit the places I’d read about in the Bible growing up, I said yes.”
“There is something absolutely magical about Israel,” she continued. “I’ve never felt such a sense of spirituality or connection to God … something I’ve been missing for a few years now.” She then went on to say that the trip filled a “God-shaped hole” in her heart.

I am an American singer. I was raised Christian and have Jewish ancestors. When I was offered an amazing opportunity to visit the places I’d read about in the Bible growing up, I said yes. There is something absolutely magical about Israel. I’ve never felt such a sense of spirituality or connection to God…something I’ve been missing for a few years now. Spirituality is so important to me…to be baptized in the Jordan river – the same place Jesus was baptized – I’ve never felt more renewed in my life. This trip has been so important for my well-being, my heart, and my soul. I’m grateful for the memories made and the opportunity to be able to fill the God-sized hole in my heart. Thank you for having me, Israel ?
Despite turning the comments off under her post, Demi continues to receive criticism on Twitter and under her other Instagram posts for her tone-deaf approach to the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.

Demi’s other posts from her trip that still have comments enabled have received praise from her celebrity friends in the entertainment industry. Her manager, Scooter Braun, commented on her photo of the World Holocaust Center saying: “Thank you for never forgetting.”
Last night, the singer posted this photo of herself and a child at the Shalva National Center with the caption: “While I was over there I fell in love with this little beauty at the Shalva National Center. What an amazing center for children with special needs.” Bachelorette star Hannah Brown commented saying, “These posts are making my heart so happy.”
Instagram users continue to comment on Demi’s posts saying “free Palestine” and condemning her for her ignorance. She’s yet to acknowledge the backlash.
