Demi Lovato’s Mom Reveals The Singer Is 90 Days Sober After Overdose
Demi Lovato is on the road to recovery! Following the “Confident” singer’s hospitalization and current rehab stint after her overdose earlier this year, her mom is giving us an update on her daughter’s health–and we’re happy to report it’s great news. Dianna De La Garza appeared on Maria Menounos‘s podcast Friday, October 26th, where she revealed that Demi is 90 days sober.
“She has 90 days and I couldn’t be more thankful or more proud of her, because addiction, being a disease, it is work,” she confirmed. “It’s very hard, it’s not easy, and there are no shortcuts.”
Dianna also admitted that she didn’t know the extent of her daughter’s problem before the overdose. Over the summer, there were reports that Demi had fallen off the wagon, but at the time, fans weren’t sure if they were just rumors or not. It turns out Dianna knew for a fact that Demi wasn’t sober.
“I didn’t know what she was doing. I just knew that she wasn’t sober,” she said, adding that she “can’t really say for sure” what caused the 26-year-old to relapse on July 24.
She went on to say that Demi had a very tough year. Aside from the relapse, she and her family lost a total of five family members over a span of a few months, including two grandparents and two uncles. However, she doesn’t believe any of those deaths were the reason Demi overdosed. In fact, she has no idea what caused it but hinted that it “may have been” that she ended up around the wrong people.
“I don’t think it was a particular incident,” Dianna explained. “I also think that when you’re young and sometimes you think, maybe I can go do this and it won’t affect me. But with an addiction, you just can’t do that. It’s a slippery slope.”
Demi’s sister Madison De La Garza also shared an update earlier this month. “Demi’s doing really well,” she said on the Millennial Hollywood With Dakota T. Jones podcast. “She’s working really hard on her sobriety and we’re all so incredibly proud of her. It’s been crazy for our family. It’s been a lot.”
The whole family has been fairly open about the overdose and rehab, including Demi herself. A few weeks after the incident, she shared a letter to her fans on Instagram.
Demi still has a long road ahead of her, but achieving 90 days of sobriety is a huge milestone that she should be very proud of! We’re sending her all the positive vibes.
