Demi Lovato Speaks Out for the First Time Since Her Drug Overdose & Recommits to Sobriety
Nearly two weeks after suffering a drug overdose, Demi Lovato has finally broken her silence. The “Tell Me You Love Me” singer, who was rushed to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after being found unconscious in her home on July 24, issued her first statement on Instagram, giving everyone an update on her health and progress following her hospitalization.
“I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction. What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time. It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet,” she wrote. “I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well.”
Demi also thanked her fans for their love and support during her difficult week, along with her family and team, as well as the staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.
“I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery. The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out the other side,” Demi added before promising her fans that she will keep fighting.

Well-wishes for Demi poured in the comments section of her IG statement from number of celebs, including Khloé Kardashian, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Paris Hilton, Hailey Baldwin, Jennifer Lopez, and more. Hailey posted three heart emojis, Khloé commented “You are a warrior!! Focus on you and know that everyone is routing for you! You are so very loved,” and J.Lo wrote. “Oh baby…sending you love.”
This message will no doubt be a huge relief to fans who now know that she is awake and ready to get better and recommit to sobriety. Demi was expected to leave the hospital last week, however, it remains unknown if she did. According to a source for E! News, the 25-year-old is headed straight to rehab in order to fully recover from her relapse. Sources say she was spiralling out of control for weeks before her overdose, but she told her coaches and managers that she had everything under control. It turns out, her overdose and the subsequent side effects, including extreme nausea and high fever, were the wakeup call she needed.
“Demi doesn’t want to die and she’s very grateful to be alive,” the insider continued. “Her family hasn’t left her side and have consulted with several people to figure out what the best plan of action is. Everyone wants her to take it very seriously and she seems to be.”
Prior to her relapse, Demi had celebrated being sober for six years. She released her single “Sober” earlier this year which is what revealed that she had broken her sobriety. But, it seems like Demi is focused on her health, which is the single most important thing right now. Struggling with addiction is a hard battle, but we’re happy to hear that she’s is willing and wanting to get help.
Get better soon, Demi!
