Dove Cameron Chimes In On Bella Thorne/Whoopi Goldberg Feud
This is getting heated! On Wednesday morning, Disney Channel star Dove Cameron chimed in on the feud between Whoopi Goldberg and Bella Thorne. To recap: the drama started when Whoopi had some choice words to say about Bella’s decision to release her own nudes after a hacker broke into her phone and threatened to release them. On her show, The View, Whoopi said, “You don’t take nude pictures of yourself. Once you take that picture, it goes into the Cloud and it’s available to any hacker who wants it, and if you don’t know that in 2019 that this is an issue, I’m sorry. You don’t get to do that.” Bella responded with a tearful series of videos on Instagram saying, “I just want to say that me watching this interview made me feel bad about myself … You’re so crazy for thinking such terrible things on such an awful situation.” Yikes, right?
Now Dove Cameron has added her two cents to the conflict. Fresh off of her West End debut in the musical The Light in the Piazza, she took to Twitter and Instagram in order to call out the daytime talk show host. “where is the support for young women. i love women. everyone should love women.” Dove said on her Twitter. “don’t be an asshole! sexuality is part of being HUMAN. but judgment and objectification is not,” she added.

@bellathorne we support you. @whoopigoldberg don’t be ugly. you are not spreading a positive message for young developing women, or men, for that matter, all you’re doing is perpetuating an old, dying, DAMAGING idea that we, as humans, are inherently wrong and dirty and deserve to be “punished” and objectified. slut shaming is old. please. just. be better than this. it’s really not that hard.
The series of posts included an annotated repost of Bella’s original Instagram Story response to Whoopi’s comments. Dove added, “NOT what I would teach my daughter. Not progressive.” We have to say, it’s really nice to see Dove vocally supporting Bella like this. No one should be blamed when their privacy is invaded and their intimate photos are stolen. Major props to Dove for going to bat for women’s right to enjoy intimacy and explore their sexualities.
Bella seemed like she appreciated the support. She commented on Dove’s Instagram post, saying, “Thank u for posting this we need more eyes on this situation … Because it doesn’t stop here. It only gets worse.”
