We haven’t thought about Ne-Yo in a minute. Nine years ago, when he and Selena Gomez presented at the MTV Music Video Awards together, the “So Sick” singer took to Twitter to express what a nice time he had. “Shout out Selena Gomez, lil’ cutie, and her very sexy friend she was with!!” he wrote. “Had fun at the VMA’s. It was… interesting.” Naturally, a fan recently came upon the tweet again and Selenators are begging for an explanation over this very “interesting” social media post.

Selena was still starring on Disney Channel‘s Wizards of Waverly Place at the time and balancing her new music career, but we’re mostly curious about who the “sexy friend she was with” is! Some fans seem to think it was SelGo’s cousin/friend Priscilla De Leon who they believe was attending the VMAs with the singer/actress that night. Priscilla is the same age as her cousin and Ne-Yo would have been 31 at the time. Sure, it’s not technically illegal… but it’s def weird.

Priscilla did attend the 2011 VMAs with Selena, but another fan claims that he is talking about Secret Life Of The American Teenager actress Francia Raisa, who would later donate her kidney to the “Come and Get It” singer. Francia is four years older than Selena, so if Ne-Yo is talking about the Grown-ish actress, that’s *slightly* more appropriate. The third theory is that he’s talking about himself… because they presented together at the awards show!

The resurfaced Ne-Yo tweet started getting traction when Instagram account @theselenarundown posted a screenshot, writing, “can someone explain this tweet.” Honestly, we just hope Ne-Yo catches wind that people are talking about this tweet and explains it himself!

This controversy comes after Tyler The Creator was suspended from Twitter over his old tweets about Selena Gomez. Those tweets were also from 2010 and the rapper has since apologized.
