Selena Gomez Opens Up About Getting Through Her Split From Justin Bieber

Selena Gomez Justin Bieber Split

It’s Selena Gomez’s world and we’re all just living in it, okay? The singer is dominating the charts right now after releasing two new songs in two days — “Lose You To Love Me” and “Look At Her Now.” Both songs seem to heavily touch on Selena’s relationship and breakup with Justin Bieber, who she dated on-and-off for 10 years and is now married to Hailey Baldwin. The 27-year-old opened up about the new tracks and the stories behind them on On Air with Ryan Seacrest this morning.

Selena told the radio host that she actually intended on releasing her album two years ago, but she’s so glad that she didn’t. “It’s actually perfect timing because I was going to release it two years ago and none of the words that I’m speaking would have existed,” she told Ryan.

The song “Lose You To Love Me” is very clearly about Selena’s breakup with Justin Bieber. Justin and Selena were last linked together in March 2018. He was spotted out with Hailey Baldwin just three months later, and the two announced their engagement in July of that year. We’re assuming Selena wrote the song around that time, during the peak of her heartbreak. When Ryan asked if she could have released it then, rather than now, she said: “Absolutely not. That wouldn’t have happened. It took me a long time to get through it, but, now it’s fun! I’m smiling. It’s so great!”

Selena also touched on whether the first two singles from the album set the mood for the entire record. Unfortunately, we don’t expect to hear any more JB themed songs, because that chapter is closed in Sel’s life. “All I know is these two songs were me wrapping up a chapter in a pretty little bow and the rest of the album is all about where I am now and where I’m going,” she told Ryan. “So, in my opinion, these are great songs, but I’ve saved the best for later.”

We can’t wait to see what else Selena has in store for us this year!
