Tati Westbrook Uploads Second Video Addressing James Charles Scandal
The internet went into a meltdown last week when beauty influencer Tati Westbrook uploaded a scathing video detailing all the reasons why she was cutting James Charles out of her life. She made some pretty big claims – one of the biggest being how James harasses straight men he has crushes on – all while questioning James’ loyalty and integrity. It was a lot – if you need a refresh, click here.
Since then, James has been at the brunt of a lot of hate. His subscriber count has dropped by three million, while Tati’s has since grown past 10 million, and Twitter is absolutely dragging him because of the allegations Tati made. It’s been a wild few days, and now Tati is calling for the public to lay off roasting James.
In a new video uploaded on Thursday titled “Why I Did It…”, the 37-year-old beauty mogul explains that the purpose of her initial video was as a wake-up call to James.
“This was really a wake-up call, and it was me trying to reach someone who I found completely unreachable,” she said. “I had been trying to deliver the same message so many times because this wasn’t just about one thing.”
Tati then continued to explain how she didn’t think her video would gain such a reaction and cause the level of controversy it has. “I thought that I would be the one that would take the hit,” she said.
Despite the fact that Tati’s initial video, titled “Bye Sister,” might have cost James his career, she’s trying to make clear that was never her intention and that she still has love for her former friend.
“I don’t hate James Charles. I don’t want you guys hating on him … It’s painful to watch someone that you have cared for be dragged and to know that this started because of me. I don’t think anyone deserves that,” she said.
“I do really want the hate to stop. I want the picking sides, and the abusive memes and the language, and all of that, I really hope on both sides it can stop. That’s not why I made the video.”
James has not responded to Tati’s latest video as of yet – his last response was an 8-minute long video he posted after Tati’s initial “Bye Sister” video. Since then, the 19-year-old has kept quiet, avoiding the press while taking a social media hiatus. As for Tati – she says she’ll be taking a break from social media for the minute.
“I’m not back,” she warned subscribers at the beginning of her video. “I needed to hop on, answer some questions and at least do that for you while I take a time out.” She added that while she has some pre-filmed videos she might upload she won’t be filming any new content for the time being.
“I’ve always said I want my channel to be an escape and like a good place to play with makeup and fun stuff like that,” she said. “And I still want my channel to be that, but right now, you know, I need to take a time out.”
