Taylor Swift’s Landlord Spills The Beans On Her Cornelia Street Apartment
Taylor Swift recently dropped her new album, Lover, and every song is a bop. One song, in particular, that has caught everyone’s attention is “Cornelia Street,” which was written about the street Taylor rented a home on for a brief time in New York City. On first listen, the song sounds like it was written about a romantic relationship, presumably the one Taylor has with her current boyfriend Joe Alwyn. Some fans, however, think “Cornelia Street” is about Tay’s friendship with Karlie Kloss, which has pretty much diminished over the last number of years. So what is it about Taylor’s Cornelia Street apartment that’s so good she had to write a song about it? Well, her landlord has spilled the beans on what exactly drew the singer to the property.
David Aldea, a former Soho House executive, was the person who showed the apartment to Taylor back in 2016. He told Vulture that he actually didn’t even know who the star was when he agreed to show it to her … what a waste. “I’m just not a pop culture guy,” he told the publication. “And I even said to someone, ‘I’m meeting a person named Taylor Swift who wants to rent my home.’ Now, mind you, I knew her songs because I had them on my running playlist. I just didn’t match the name to the song. I know, it’s silly.”
The landlord said he noticed multiple references to specific places in the apartment Taylor made in the love ballad, one in particular about the roof. “She was probably talking about the outdoor space off her master bedroom because I had that set up as sort of an outdoor living room,” he said. “And there’s artificial turf on the ground and stuff, so it felt like you were outdoors but indoors, and there was a fireplace outside. It was very, very private.”
The star knew pretty much instantly that she wanted the apartment and even asked David if she could keep all of his furniture. “She asked if she could rent not just the house but my style as well. So, towels and dishes and glassware and furniture and just kind of ‘Take your clothes and go.’ So I did. She was an absolute delight to deal with.”
Taylor has been photographed multiple times leaving the apartment at 23 Cornelia Street with a bunch of celebrity friends, including Karlie and Joe. This photo shows the front of the building, which is often swarmed with Swifties who want to get a glimpse of Taylor’s pad.
