TV Host Slammed For “Disrespectful” Question To Cole Sprouse
Talking about death is a tricky subject. The Riverdale cast has been dealing with the passing of their friend and co-star Luke Perry in their own ways. And while some like Lili Reinhart, Skeet Ulrich, and Camila Mendes decided to share their memories of Luke on social media, others have prefered to stay more silent and reflect on their own. So when a TV host and reporter had the opportunity to interview Cole Sprouse and Haley Lu Richardson for their new movie Five Feet Apart this week, fans were PO’d when Andrew Freund asked what they deemed a “disrespectful” and “insensitive” question about Luke’s death.
I caught up with @colesprouse today to talk about his new film @FiveFeetApart and see how he is doing along with the cast of #Riverdale since the passing of #LukePerry…this is what he had to say…❤️ pic.twitter.com/ObWsGSsj5c

After saying that the cast was “recovering,” he added, “It’s obviously not the easiest thing to talk about, but he was well loved, and there’s been an outpouring of emotional support from people around the world, which just goes to show what a wonderful person he was and how much he impacted people’s lives — and impacted our lives. But I know that his family has requested a sort of privacy during this period, and I respect that quite a bit,” essentially shutting down the question.
luke passed away four days ago, that’s really disrespectful

So disrespectful. It’s been three days. Was that really appropriate to ask considering this is about his movie? I guess a few clicks and views is more important than basic human decency.

Luke shouldn’t come up in any interview the cast does for at least a few weeks. It’s literally been 3 days. Cole was there promoting a movie, not Riverdale & the questions should’ve stayed that way. I don’t mean that disrespectfully against you, I’m just watching out for the cast

Don’t think that should’ve been asked now… it’s only been a couple days and the interview was supposed to be about the movie that him and the rest of the cast worked so hard on. Luke shouldn’t of even been brought up in a question

how can andrew STILL not have post an excuse about this highly inappropriate question? After all the reactions? And a even bigger question: havent he realized the wierd behavior himself yet? #lukeperry #riplukeperry #riverdale #colesprouse

While we’re sure Andrew didn’t mean any offense (after all, he’s just doing his job!), it also makes sense that Riverdale fans would be highly protective. After all, this is *such* a sensitive issue and if Cole hasn’t been ready to talk about it on social media yet, it’s up to him when and how he’d like to break his silence.
James Corden also reportedly asked the former Disney Channel star about Luke, and his answer was basically the same. “Luke was one of those guys, I think, that would much rather have us laughing and telling stories about his life than sort of lamenting it. He was a good man. He was one of those guys that you never heard a bad thing said about him, ever in Hollywood. But out of respect for the privacy of his family during this time, I’m just trying to keep it brief.”
After Cole filmed with James, he headed to the premiere for Five Feet Apart, where he was joined by co-star girlfriend Lili on the red carpet and Skeet, Casey Cott, and Hart Denton inside. Together, they can get through anything.
