A beautiful thing about the freedom of the press is that tabloids aren’t actually free to write whatever untrue garbage they feel like printing without getting sued for libel. Liberace famously sued The Daily Mail in 1959 for claiming he was gay and *won* despite the fact he was obviously LGBTQ, probably because outing public figures is so uncool that we collectively looked the other way when Liberace perjured himself on the stand. Precedent should scare publication like Radar Online, who claimed that Taylor Swift dumped Calvin Harris because of an alleged trip to a Thai massage parlor. Calvin said that it won’t be a “happy ending” for Radar when he sues them for defamation of character in a now-deleted tweet captured by E! Online.
