Buckle up, everyone: we’re diving back into the feud that has haunted stans and fandoms for nearly a decade. It has broken friendships, destroyed the internet, and trended on Twitter. We’re talking, of course, about the Taylor Swift, Kim Kardashian, and Kanye West feud.
Yes, it’s 2020 and yes, we are still talking about this. Sometimes, you just need an escape from the difficult thing that is life and follow this very detailed rollercoaster of a timeline. It all started at the 2009 Video Music Awards and leads all the way up until March 2020. There were ups, downs, confusing Snapchat stories, and even more confusing statements. We’re here to break it down for you.
Swift’s unrequited love bop, “You Belong With Me,” was nominated for a Video Music Award in September 2009. Swift performed the song on the subway, then into the streets of New York City. No surprise to anyone, she won the award for Best Female Video.
Swift was presented the award by her rumored-boyfriend at the time Taylor Lautner. But as soon as she made up to the stage, Kanye West jumped up and grabbed the mic. At first, Taylor expressed excitement at the thought of 'Ye on stage with her. She later remarked that she had been a fan of him.
Kanye grabbed the mic from Taylor, and quickly the moment turned sour. Kanye declared that Beyonce, who was also up for the award, had “the greatest video of all time” and the moment became ingrained in the collective consciousness of society for the rest of time. Without a doubt, you've uttered the phrase "Imma let you finish."

In the interview, she continued, “I realized he is so two-faced. That he wants to be nice to me behind the scenes, but then he wants to look cool, get up in front of everyone and talk shit.” "I was so upset,” she admitted.

"I mean, he's called me a b*tch in his songs. That's just, like, what they say. I never once think, [gasping] ‘What a derogatory word! How dare he?’ Not in a million years," Kim said. "I don't know why she just, you know, flipped all of a sudden.… It was funny because [on the call with Kanye, Taylor] said, ‘When I get on the Grammy red carpet, all the media is going to think that I'm so against this, and I'll just laugh and say, ‘The joke's on you, guys. I was in on it the whole time.’ And I'm like, wait, but [in] your Grammy speech, you completely dissed my husband just to play the victim again.”

She continued, “To be clear, the only issue I ever had around the situation was that Taylor lied through her publicist who stated that 'Kanye never called to ask for permission...' They clearly spoke so I let you all see that.'
