Demi Lovato’s Overdose Reportedly Related To Oxycodone Laced With Fentanyl

In the weeks that have passed since Demi Lovato suffered an overdose that left her hospitalized and entered treatment for her addiction, it seems we might have an update on what caused the overdose in the first place. According to TMZ, Demi’s overdose could be related to Oxycodone laced with fentanyl, and obviously, this is a very scary development for anyone who’s worried about the singer’s condition.

As a source claiming to be close to the situation told the site, the night the overdose happened, Demi had been at a party in West Hollywood when she went home and texted her drug dealer, who she’s reportedly been using since April, to come to her house. Supposedly, they used Oxycodone together at that point, but the drug dealer that Demi uses had been known to buy drugs that aren’t clean. It seems the Oxycodone that Demi got her hands on was laced with fentanyl, which can and has been deadly for many people, and the dealer left when he realized that something was wrong with the supply.

That led to Demi being found unconscious in her bed the next morning. As we know, emergency services were called at that point and she was rushed to the hospital. Deaths caused by fentanyl have been on a steep rise lately, and combined with Oxy is what ultimately led to Prince‘s death two years ago – making what happened with the “Tell Me You Love Me” singer even more scary.

It’s hard to know how accurate this intel is, especially because Demi hasn’t confirmed herself what drug she was using and there’s a good chance she never will. What’s most important now is that she was able to get the medical help she needed and that she’s recommitting herself to sobriety. Hopefully, she’s on her way to a healthier, happier life.

On August 5, Demi broke her silence for the first time since she was hospitalized, sharing a message with her fans on Instagram that explained her addiction is an ongoing struggle and that she will be taking time to get the treatment she needs.

“I now need time to heal and focus on my sobriety and road to recovery,” she wrote at the time. “The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side.”

We’re rooting for Demi to have a speedy recovery and to get the help she needs. She’s got this!
