The Consuelos family is taking over Riverdale! It’s been confirmed that Mark Consuelos’s son, Michael, will play young Hiram Lodge on season three. He will appear as the high school version of Mark’s villainous character in the show’s upcoming flashback episode. This might honestly be the best casting we’ve ever seen – and Mark and his wife, Kelly Ripa, are just as excited as we are! They both shared the news on Instagram and expressed pride that their son had landed the role.

“Bucket list moment for Mom and Dad. Congrats to my son Michael on being cast as the younger (and much better and handsomer) Hiram,” Mark wrote. “We are so proud. Love you MJC.”

“Congrats Michael on being cast as young Hiram Lodge on @thecwriverdale, however, @instasuelos and I would like to take this opportunity to remind you and your siblings that as your fiduciaries we are hereby entitled to 10% of all future earnings hereto wit, or something like that,” Kelly added.

The role of teenage Hiram is the first major acting role for Michael, who is currently a junior at the NYU Tisch School of the Arts. At Sunday’s 2018 Teen Choice Awards, Mark told Access Hollywood how proud and excited he is that his son was cast.

“He went in, auditioned for the job, he did it – yeah, he auditioned! Of course, he auditioned. He’s a film student at NYU who wants to make movies and TV and stuff, so this is such an honor for me. Bucket list, absolutely, as a father,” Mark revealed. “He’s so excited.”

He continued, “It’s more than kind of cool. I have a week and a half off and I was going to go back home to New York but I’m staying in Vancouver [where Riverdale films] and we’re going to hang out together. It’s special bonding time.”

Michael obviously had a bit of an advantage for this role! Looking almost exactly like the actor he’s portraying may have helped him out a little.

As for what fans can expect to see from young Hiram, we’re not quite sure just yet! We don’t know much about the flashback episode besides the fact that it’ll be titled “The Midnight Club.” It is described as the series’ take on The Breakfast Club, but according to creator and showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the episode will reveal a dark secret the parents have been keeping.

“We are going to learn about a really, really dark secret in Riverdale that the parents have been keeping since they were in high school,” Roberto said at the network’s Television Critics Association press tour. “Throughout the years, we’ve talked a little bit about backstory and we’ve been revealing backstory slowly and periodically I will get a phone call from Mädchen (Amick), who’ll say, ‘Ok, I’m playing a scene and I know nothing of the context,’ So we talk about that stuff.”

In addition to Michael playing young Hiram, the ep will see Lili Reinhart (Betty) as young Alice (Mädchen), Cole Sprouse (Jughead) as young F.P. Jones (Skeet Ulrich), Camila Mendes (Veronica) as young Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols), KJ Apa (Archie) as young Fred Andrews (Luke Perry), and Madeleine Petsch (Cheryl) as young Penelope Blossom (Nathalie Boltt).

Fans of the show have constantly wondered about the parents’ history – and it looks like we’re finally going to get some answers! Were Hiram and Hal Cooper terrible teenagers, too? What tore #Falice apart? Also, what went down between Hermione and Fred in the past?

We hope to find out all this and more when we watch Riverdale‘s parent-centric flashback episode next season! We are counting down the days…
