Riverdale‘s Lili Reinhart Gets Real About The Source Of Her Body Dysmorphia
Though she keeps her love life with Cole Sprouse incredibly private, Lili Reinhart is not afraid to open up about her struggles with body dysmorphia. Ever since her rise to fame, the Riverdale star has used her Hollywood status to discuss topics like mental health and body image – and any chance she gets to talk about it, she does. Now, in a new interview with Glamour, the actress got super real about the root of her insecurities and how she copes with them on a daily basis.
Just when we thought Lili couldn’t be any more relatable, she admitted that she has good days and bad days, too. “I cried last night to my mom over FaceTime because of how ugly I felt I looked,” she told the magazine. “My skin has caused me a lot of anxiety and sadness.”
In fact, just one pimple can ruin her whole day. She elaborated by revealing that her type of body dysmorphia actually stems from her acne. “I see any acne on my face as an obsessive thing,” she continued. “[It’s] the only thing I can think about, and it makes me want to hide.”
In the past, the 21-year-old admitted that her breakouts have caused “major self-esteem issues” over the years to the point that it’s even affected her mood on the set of Riverdale. However, opening up about her acne has made her realize that she’s not alone. Lili revealed that a famous singer reached out to her on social media recently to applaud her openness. “Lorde actually messaged me on Instagram when I had spoken out about my acne,” she said. “And she was like, ‘Girl, I feel you. I’m totally on the same page as you.’ It was really comforting and very sweet of her.”
Elsewhere during her interview, Lili discussed what it’s like to be in the spotlight and how candid she wants to be about her personal life. She admitted that she likes to be open, but that she definitely needs to have some boundaries. “I haven’t really shown the super vulnerable side of myself to my audience. If I did that, I wouldn’t have anything left for myself,” she said. “I talk about my mental health. I talk about depression. But I’m private about the things that I want to be private about.”
One thing she still hasn’t gotten used to is the paparazzi following her around. “It’s only been two years that I’ve been semi in the spotlight, and it still pisses me off so bad when I see someone trying to sneak a photo of me,” she said, adding that they make her feel like a zoo animal.
Honestly, we love how real Lili always is. It’s one of the many reasons why we love her so much and the fact that she uses her interviews to discuss her insecurities is inspiring AF.
