JK Rowling has said that she chose the name “Dumbledore” because it is an Old English word for “bumblebee” from the eighteenth century, and she pictured him walking around the castle humming to himself like a happy little bumblebee. Cute. So not only is Dumbledore an incredibly powerful wizard, but he’s also a music lover who was named after an adorable tiny musical insect.
