25 Things Coming To Netflix In April To Get Excited About
Across The Line
Across The Line was inspired by the 1989 Cole Harbour District High School race riots, in which an estimated fifty black and white students got into a brawl after a snowball fight got ugly. That sounds cutesy and Canadian, but it was a really big deal during a time in Canada’s history where racial tensions between low-income black students and poor white students came on the heels of two shooting deaths of black citizens by white police officers. Across The Line follows a black hockey player who’s poised for a professional career but could be derailed by his brother’s criminal activities, his crush on a girl with a white boyfriend, and growing racial tensions at school.
