Ariana Grande Announces She’s Taking “Time To Heal” After Mac Miller’s Death
Ariana Grande has been through a lot in the last couple of years. As she continues to heal from the deadly Manchester terrorist attack that took place during her Dangerous Woman Tour in May 2017, it’s been announced that Ariana will be taking some time away from the spotlight in order to “heal and mend” following the unexpected death of her ex-boyfriend Mac Miller as well.
Last night, September 17, she and her fiancé Pete Davidson were slated to attend the 2018 Emmy Awards. However, when they were both MIA, fans wondered if Mac’s death had anything to do with it. It turns out, her decision to take time off has to do with him and all all of the trauma she’s experienced recently. Ariana’s reps explained that she is taking some “much needed” time to recover.
“Contrary to reports, Ariana will not be attending the Emmys tonight,” her team shared in a statement to People. “Pete has also opted to not attend to be with her in New York.”
“Given the events of the past couple of years, Ariana is going to take some much needed time to heal and mend. She will be staying close to home and using this period to spend time with her loved ones and work on new music without deadline,” the statement continued, adding that “No Tears Left to Cry” singer also thanks her fans for their understanding during this difficult time.
Considering the awards show was just 10 days after the rapper’s tragic passing, Ariana made the right call. This would have been her first public appearance, so we can only imagine how tough it would have been to be around all those people and comment on how she’s coping with the loss.
Mac, who Ariana dated for two years, died on September 7 of an apparent overdose. Since his death, the 25-year-old songstress has kept a very low profile, posting little on social media. But, in an emotional tribute to Mac on Instagram last week, Ariana made it clear that she’s still grieving what happened. Alongside a heartbreaking video that sees the two of them laughing together, she wrote, “I can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. I really can’t wrap my head around it.”

i adored you from the day i met you when i was nineteen and i always will. i can’t believe you aren’t here anymore. i really can’t wrap my head around it. we talked about this. so many times. i’m so mad, i’m so sad i don’t know what to do. you were my dearest friend. for so long. above anything else. i’m so sorry i couldn’t fix or take your pain away. i really wanted to. the kindest, sweetest soul with demons he never deserved. i hope you’re okay now. rest.
It’s really hard to watch her vid and read her tribute without crying. It also just proves how much Mac meant to Ariana despite the fact that they parted ways earlier this year. There was never any love lost between them and Ari’s decision to opt out of the Emmys is her way of respecting him. It’s also so nice of Pete to stand by his lady while she mourns her ex’s death.
We hope Ariana takes all the time she needs.
