Ashleigh Murray was robbed when plans for a rumored Josie and the Pussycats pilot were scrapped by The CW. The universe has a way of working itself out, though, and now Deadline is reporting that Ash is set to star in the new Archie Comics television show, Katy Keene.

TBH, Ashleigh still deserved *her own* television show, but we’ll take what we can get. Monday night, The CW announced that Josie McCoy will be one of the four leads of Katy Keene alongside its title character. The series will follow fashion icon and general diva extraordinaire Katy Keene and three of her friends as they try to make it in New York City. The ~official~ synopsis of the show says this musical dramedy will chronical its four leads as they try to make it “on Broadway, on the runway, and in the recording studio.” Safe to say Josie will be posted up in that recording studio, but with Roberto Aguire-Sacasa‘s well-demonstrated penchant for show tunes, we wouldn’t be surprised if Josie ended up as the next Fanny Brice for an episode or two.

As Katy Keene takes place in the near-ish future, Ash will be portraying an older version of her character. It’ll be interesting to see how they address Josie’s college years without spoiling anything from the next few seasons of Riverdale. Are they just going to ignore her last five years ever existed? This also ~blatantly~ contradicts rumors based on CW president Mark Pedowitz‘s comments at the TCAs last week that a Riverdale/Katy Keene crossover would not be happening. Rumors that we did, indeed, help spread here on the whisp. Oops! Looks like while there are no current plans this early on in the process for a Riverdale crossover, Josie’s involvement in the show (and their filming location in Vancouver) will make it pretty easy to find an excuse for some blasts from the past to check in on Josie from time-to-time. The CW is just focusing on “getting the pilot right” for now. Right, makes sense.

Camila Mendes tweeted out her congratulations to her Riverdale co-star, with the rest of the super-supportive cast surely soon to follow:

Ashleigh also seems pretty excited, herself:

Ash will only be leaving Riverdale if Katy Keene gets picked up for a series order, and we’re so conflicted. We’ll miss Ashleigh on Riverdale if she has to go, but we’re so excited for Katy Keene and her bigger, better career opportunity. Hopefully, since the shows film near each other, Josie will still be able to go ~back to the past~ and visit her pals on Riverdale.
