Blake and Caelynn text messages Bachelor in Paradise drama

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard that Blake Horstmann isn’t everyone’s favorite person on the new season of Bachelor in Paradise that premiered Monday and Tuesday of this week. But what exactly did Blake do to make so many women — including Caelynn Miller-Keyes — so angry with him? Let’s break down everything we know:

Blake and Caelynn hooked up at Stagecoach.

According to Caelynn, the two dated on-and-off and even contemplated skipping Paradise and coming out in the real world as an actual couple. They were no longer an item when they reunited at the music festival Stagecoach earlier this year and ended up sleeping together. According to Caelynn, Blake “sweet talked” her into bed, only to start DM’ing Hannah Godwin the very next morning while they were still together. Blake was also talking about “how hot” Tayshia Adams was as well, which really upset Caelynn.

Then, this is where it gets really messy. Caelynn claims that Blake called their hookup a “mistake” and told her she needed to lie about what happened. This may be because Blake also hooked up with Kristina Schulmann the night before, so he didn’t want to be painted as a f*ckboy on national television (a little too late for that one).

Kristina also confronted Blake for his actions during Tuesday night’s episode of Paradise, telling him that he’s been disrespectful towards women. Blake refused to apologize to Kristina, saying he was a single man when he hooked up with both women.

Blake Reveals Caelynn Texts

After seeing how negatively he’s been portrayed on the show, Blake took to his Instagram to set the record straight. He shared a very lengthy message to fans which took responsibility for his actions, but also defended himself against fabricated stories.

“I want to get the truth out. I was not able to defend myself down in Paradise because me and most of the beach had no idea the things Caelynn was saying in her interviews. I NEVER ‘sweet talked’ her at Stagecoach. Caelynn and I were NEVER in a relationship. I NEVER ghosted Caelynn, I NEVER called her a mistake and I absolutely NEVER EVER EVER silenced Caelynn,” he wrote.

But the lengthy message wasn’t enough to clear his name. He needed proof that he wasn’t this horrible character that was being depicted on television. So Blake released personal text messages between himself and Caelynn which tell a very different story.

The text messages, which Blake has since deleted from his Instagram Stories, show that Caelynn allegedly got an Uber to his hotel room the night they hooked up at Stagecoach. She told him she was coming over for “Just sex. Nothing more, nothing less” and even added that she didn’t want to cuddle. Blake told her not to come but she insisted.

Then, shortly before Paradise started filming, news broke that Caelynn and Blake had hooked up. The text messages show Caelynn “freaking out” about people knowing of their hookup, adding that they’ve been “so careful” to keep it quiet.

Dean Unglert defends Caelynn.

After Blake released the text messages, Bachelor Nation immediately turned on Caelynn and started attacking her on social media. Quickly thereafter, Dean Unglert came to her defense with a tweet.

Fans weren’t to receptive of Dean’s comment, given that in Season 4 of Paradise, he was widely known as the bad boy who jumped from girl to girl.

One commenter replied, “You should probably have sat this one out. Don’t you remember what you did in and outside of paradise?”

To which Dean responded, “True. My shitty behavior 2 years ago invalidates everything I say and do thereafter.”

Others defend Blake.

Bachelor Nation is split — this much is clear. After Blake went public with his side of the story on Instagram, many Bachelor(ette) alums chimed in to give the controversial Becca Kufrin runner-up their support. Even Kristina Schulman wrote, “Speak your truth, no one can take that away from you.” That’s a pretty big contrast from what she was saying about Blake while they filmed the show. Others like Adam Gottschalk, Jasmine Goode, Kevin Wendt, Astrid Loch, Ben Zorn, Jason Tartick, and Kaitlyn Bristowe commented to tell Blake they thought he did the right thing.

Kevin’s comment was particularly interesting considering he said Blake was considering posting last week but Kevin urged him not to. “[As] a friend I just want YOU to be happy and I know your anxiety was about to erupt. So I get it [a]nd I’ll support you regardless,” he wrote.

Waiting on Caelynn’s response.

So far, Caelynn has kept quiet about the situation, but she’s going to have to speak out eventually. It seems as though Blake’s negative storyline will continue on the show, which will only make things worse, knowing that she could be fabricating the truth.

Until then…
