Camila Mendes & Madelaine Petsch Poke Fun At Riverdale Showrunner
Tonight’s special musical episode of Riverdale is going to be a sh*t show in the best type of way. Lili Reinhart will be playing Heather Duke even though her entire being screams Heather McNamara, Madelaine Petsch‘s character technically is only supposed to have one song in the stage production even though *her* entire being screams Heathers: The Musical, and Cole Sprouse and Lili are 100% going to sing “Seventeen” even though neither of their characters are in that number. Riverdale is really the gift that keeps on giving. Cami teased the episode on her Instagram yesterday because as an NYU Tisch grad, she’s contractually obligated to love musical theatre:
There’s a lot to unpack there (like Hermione finally leaving Hiram!, Madelaine being the hottest person on the planet!, Plaid!), but we were too distracted by Cami’s IG comments to really get into it.
It’s hard to say what exactly they’re making fun of here, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say it’s the excessive use of emojis.
Listen, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa spends most of his time writing outlandish dialogue for television and Archie Horror comics, and an emoji is worth a thousand words. If he wants to take a break from writing and let tiny lil pictures do some of the talking, then we say ????????
But also we love bullying (you know, the sweet kind you do to your friends, not the excessive berating that causes people to set their iPhones and computers on fire to move off into the middle of nowhere), so Cami and Madelaine, keep doing what you’re doing.
Speaking of bullying, Heathers is the best, and we are so pumped for tonight’s big (fun) event. And just because the Riverdale cast will be
stumbling through singing our fave songs from our fave musical doesn’t mean there won’t be some major plot moves. Turns out child of the corn Evelyn Evernever (TBH, who wouldn’t turn to the darkside with a name like that) has been using the school’s theatre program to indoctrinate people into her cult. Betty is shook, but isn’t that just *all* theatre programs?
Whatever. Our love is God, let’s go get a slushie.
