Dominic Sherwood Pens Emotional Goodbye Note to Shadowhunters

Do we really have to start saying goodbye to Shadowhunters? Yes, apparently. It looks like that’s a wrap on the Freeform show that the network canceled earlier this year. Dominic Sherwood, who played Jace Herondale since 2016, took to Instagram to share some thoughts now that they’ve finished filming the two-part finale episode. The second half of the final season will air at the beginning of 2019.

“I have laughed and cried and experienced a full spectrum of emotion over the last three years. All I can say is thank you for this opportunity,” he wrote. ” Hopefully you’ve learned from [Jace] as I have. About love and compassion above everything else. I love each and every one of you and you all have a special place in my heart. Keep loving and smiling always.”

What a ride. I have laughed and cried and experienced a full spectrum of emotion over the last three years. All I can say is thank you for this opportunity. Being allowed to wake up every day and become f*cking JACE!! The hero. The soldier. The lover. The brother. The parabatai. Is more than I could have every dreamed. Thank you everyone for sharing him with me. Hopefully you’ve learned from him as I have. About love and compassion above everything else. I love each and every one of you and you all have a special place in my heart. Keep loving and smiling always. Thank you. @shadowhunterstv #shadowhunterslegacy P.s. Here is a picture of me being a goof in make up. I don’t even really know what’s going on here. Your welcome.

Unfortunately, Dom’s time on the show has not been without controversy. While there were some raised eyebrows when it was revealed Jace’s romantic interest, Clary, was actually his sister (don’t worry, that was also later proven untrue), what really tore Shadowhunters fans apart was when the actor was caught on co-star Matthew Daddario‘s live stream using a gay slur. Shadowhunters had a reputation as a LGBTQ-friendly TV show – Matt Daddario’s character was part of fan-favorite same-sex ship Malec – and hearing a lead actor use hateful speech called fans to have the star recast. Though Matt and Dominic apologized immediately, unfortunately, some believe that instead of recasting the character, Freeform opted to give the show the boot altogether.

Shadowhunters is joined by The Fosters, Famous in Love, and Beyond with its 2018 cancellation by Freeform. What will we all watch now?!
