The new HBO show Euphoria has been the talk of the town over the last month, but last week’s episode is getting attention for all the wrong reasons. The third episode of the show, which aired on Sunday, revolves around Kat — a teen girl who is pretty unpopular in all aspects of real life, but finds internet fame when she begins writing graphic fanfiction based on former One Direction members Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson — AKA “Larry.”

The episode explores how Kat finds a form of escapism in writing the raunchy stories, one of the first being a sequence about Harry calming Louis down when he has pre-show jitters with some friendly oral sex (standard). The scene was animated for Euphoria viewers, featuring an anime-style Harry and Louis going down on each other. Fans of the show were originally shocked at the somewhat graphic scene involving the two British singers, but now they’re p*ssed because it’s looking like neither boys approved the episode.

Louis responded to a tweet on Monday that wondered whether he or Harry knew about the episode. He wrote: “I can categorically say that I was not contacted nor did I approve it.”

Harry hasn’t commented on the episode, but even shippers of the boys, who call themselves “Larries,” are livid that HBO would go ahead and make such a graphic portion including the two without reaching out first.

Aside from the TV show, the Harry and Louis fanfiction, or “Larry Stylinson” theory, is actually a reality for One Direction stans. Fanfiction about the two boys has been doing the rounds online for years now and there are tons of YouTube video compilations of clips that fans think reveal the two are secretly in love. Some fans are convinced the Brits are — or were — a real-life couple, however, a lot of them still believe that the Euphoria scene was a step too far. Especially because there are rumors that the Larry theory cause Harry and Louis to grow apart IRL.

The woman who played Kat, actress Barbie Ferreira, has spoken out about the scene, saying it’s “such a reality for so many people.” She told the Hollywood Reporter: “When I first read the script, that was the first thing that popped out to me, because I can relate to that as a 22-year-old woman who lived through the One Direction age. It’s such a reality for so many people, and so many children and teens that are fans just have this escapist world.”

“You completely give yourself to this persona of a person you don’t even know, or five guys, and imaging the way they interact the escaping from your own reality,” she continued. “It’s really interesting to me because I was definitely a part of that, where I wanted to escape my own life and focus on others because it was easier and felt more meaningful.”

We don’t know about you, but we wanna know how Harry feels about it.
