Jeffrey Dean Morgan Is Returning To Supernatural
In a move that we’ve seen coming for years, Jeffrey Dean Morgan is finally returning to Supernatural for its milestone 300th episode, and we couldn’t be happier.
Jeffrey has only been in twelve episodes of the series, which is now in the middle of its fourteenth season, but his character John Winchester made a big impression on viewers. The Venn Diagram of people obsessed with Supernatural and people with daddy issues is probably pretty close to a circle, so it’s no surprise that the troubled Winchester patriarch (and major DILF) became a fan favorite quickly. Jeffrey seems to make a lasting impression in short-lived roles, like his twenty-three episode arc as Denny Duquette on the ~other~ longest-running drama on television, Grey’s Anatomy. Amazing how it only takes twenty-three episodes for a television show to rip out your heart, stomp on it, and then eat your soul (which ironically sounds like something the characters on Supernatural would do). Denny is dead forever, but lucky for us, no one stays gone on Supernatural.
“We’re incredibly excited to have Jeffrey back for this milestone episode, and think fans will love what we have planned for his character,” said executive producer Andrew Dabb to Deadline.
After the Archangel Michael’s alternate-universe counterpart spent the better part of the beginning of season fourteen parading around in Dean Winchester’s gorgeous body, I’m sure Dean and his daddy dearest will have a lot to talk about it — John said “yes” to Michael in his youth, and some fans think that Michael spent a good chunk of the Winchester boys’ childhood in John’s body to prep the brothers as perfect vessels for himself and Lucifer. Most interestingly, we may finally discover whether John actually went to Heaven and why we didn’t see him when Ash went to Heaven in search of John and Mary Winchester. Of course, there’s always the chance that John will come back in a flashback or as a mirage, because this is Supernatural we’re talking about.

Jeffery has been ready for a return to Supernatural since 2015 according to old TVLine articles. The actor is super close with co-stars Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki, and loves coming back to the CW behemouth, so I doubt we’ll ever see John gone for good. Jeffery has also expressed interest in coming back for a Jensen-directed episode, so assuming showrunners aren’t handing Jensen the reins for the 300th episode, we can probably expect Jeffrey back for more episodes in the future. Because, much like John Winchester, Supernatural will never die.
