Justin Bieber fans can’t wait for December 24, 31, and December 3rd but Selena Gomez fans think there’s a nefarious reason he chose those dates for releases. Basically, they think he’s trying to steal her spotlight and usurp the excitement over her Rare album release on January 10th.

Justin teased music releases in 2020 with a cryptic tweet on December 11th. A few days ago, he announced three dates: Christmas eve, New Years’ eve, and January 3rd. Many think it’ll be two singles before New Years’ and the full-blown album a few days later. Justin’s had fans waiting on a new album since Purpose dropped over five years ago and the only fresh music we’ve received from the ex-tween star has been a part of collaborations.

It all gets more complicated, though, when Selena’s vocal critique of Justin’s manager Scooter Braun, comes into play. Scooter Braun bought Big Machine Label Group last summer and thus began one of the biggest celebrity feuds ~of all time~ since the BMLG acquisition gave him ownership of Taylor Swift‘s music masters. Several celebs — like J.B. and Demi Lovato came out to support Scooter — and Taylor’s allies like Halsey and Selena came to support their friend.

In Selena’s statement, however, SelGo mentioned a fear of “retaliation” from the other side. “My heart is so heavy right now. It makes me sick and extremely angry. (I dont mind if there may be retaliation) this is my opinion. It’s greed, manipulation and power. There is no heart or thought of anyone elses [sic]. No respect for the words my friend has written since she was a 14 year old in her bedroom.” She continued, “Seeing my best friend (or any of my friends) being constantly pulled down is the worst feeling.”

Now, people have begun to wonder if Justin’s release dates are the “retaliation” for Selena speaking out.

January will be a battle of the stans — so remember that who you stream will declare which side you’re on.
