With Mulan, Aladdin, and the Lion King live-action remakes in the works, many fans have been wondering what else Disney has up its sleeve. Think no further because according to Deadline, it looks like the next franchise up for a reboot is Pirates of the Caribbean! The website reports that Disney is exploring the possibility and has met with Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick about writing the script. Honestly, Pirates of the Caribbean with a Deadpool twist sounds fun AF.

Both Deadpool movies were a massive success so we know with certainty that Rhett and Paul have exactly what it takes to make the Pirates films even better. Not only could they provide the characters with a fresh new voice, but they could give the PG-13 franchise an R-rated spin.

Disney has not commented on the news nor has any deal been set in place, but considering the five previous Pirates movies brought in more than $4.5 billion worldwide, we don’t blame the company for wanting to reboot the franchise ASAP. After all, it was a massive hit and we don’t see why it wouldn’t be again. At the same time, the franchise we know and love hasn’t quite been the same. The most recent film, 2017’s Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, was the second-lowest grossing installment of the series, so if Disney wants this to work, a reboot is necessary.

While it’s unclear if any of the original cast will return, it’s way too early for that anyway. But, let us be the first to say that we’re ready for a whole new cast. As much as we loved Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley in the first three movies, it’s highly doubtful that they would return for a reboot, especially since they didn’t return for movies four and five. As for Johnny Depp, he’s been quite problematic these last couple of years, so Disney might be wise to just start over without him. Either way, it’s worth noting that the actor is very busy right now working on other movie projects and he’s also in talks to star in up to three more Fantastic Beasts sequels. A reboot would also give Disney a chance to introduce us to new characters, much like Star Wars did with their latest films. We’re here for it.

What do you think? Are down for a brand new Pirates movie or should Disney leave this treasure alone? We’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for more updates!
