Riverdale’s Lili Reinhart Discusses The Difference Between Betty Cooper & Her Hustlers Character
As Riverdale fans anxiously await star Lili Reinhart’s big screen debut in Hustlers, Lili’s been doing a press tour. While the differences between Betty Cooper and Lili’s character in Hustlers, Annabelle, seem endless — there’s one tidbit that Lili dropped about the differences between her two characters that’s particularly interesting.
“It was quite a refreshing role to play because I usually don’t play girls who don’t have their head on completely straight,” Lili told ET Online. “[Betty Cooper] knows what she wants, she’s incredibly smart and a leader, and Annabelle was the opposite.”
The actress continued, “[Annabelle is] certainly not stupid, but she’s naive and young and I think she really was looking at the older girls to guide her and take her under their wing.”
The people to take Lili’s character under her wing are, of course, characters played by Jennifer Lopez, Keke Palmer, Lizzo, Cardi B, and Constance Wu.
“Even though none of them are innocent,” Lili said her character could be defined as “the innocent one” of the group — which makes total sense considering her perfect casting.
In real life, Lili was guided by her co-stars (she calls J. Lo “mama bear”) and by writer-director Lorena Scafaria. Lili, who’s spoken previously about her history with body dysmorphia, told Lorena after she was cast that she would get into shape for the character. Lili said, “And she was like, ‘I don’t want you to think that. This movie is about celebrating women of different sizes. She’s like, ‘You’re perfect the way you are.'” How beautiful.
We can’t wait to see Lili on the big screen. Hustlers premieres in U.S. theaters on September 13, just a little under a month before Riverdale season four debuts on October 9. But for those of you excited to see those pole dancing moves Lili teased on her Instagram Story, sorry — not going to happen.
