Stephen Amell Announces Emily Bett Rickards Is Returning For Arrow Final Episode
This is the news we needed! Fans were heartbroken when Emily Bett Rickards, who plays Felicity Smoak, decided to leave Arrow after season seven. The show was renewed for a shortened final season eight and figuring out how such a central role could leave and the show would go on put fans into a spiral.
The show coped by sending Felicity away with her and Oliver Queen’s daughter to protect them. We were also left with several question marks about the fate of Oliver Queen and since the eighth season started airing just a few weeks ago, we’re still putting the pieces together.
Now, we get another major piece of the puzzle. Stephen Amell, who plays the Green Arrow and Oliver Queen, announced that his TV wife, Emily, will be coming back for the last episode. Fearing that the media would drop the news before the cast could, Stephen sent out a tweet on November first to alert Arrow fans.
There’ll be a lot of news coming out about our final episode over the next few months. I prefer when you hear it from us. Welcome back Emily. pic.twitter.com/YlVpgoPWLi

It’s sort of protocol to bring back characters who left the series early during the finale episode — that is, if the actor left on good terms. Nina Dobrev returned to The Vampire Diaries after quitting the show the previous season, Shelley Long went back for Cheers and Topher Grace went back to That ’70s Show. It’s only right that Emily returns for Arrow‘s finale, especially because of all the departed characters, we need to know Felicity’s fate the most.
Other actors coming back to Arrow for the final season include Willa Holland, who plays Oliver’s sister Thea Queen and left during season six, Colton Haynes as Roy Harper, and John Barrowman‘s Malcolm Merlyn.
As for what’s going to happen with Felicity Smoak and the other returning characters.. we’re still going to have to wait and see!
