It's the moment we've been waiting for — Taylor Swift has released her "You Need To Calm Down" music video and after a lot of speculation, and some debunked rumors — it was everything we wanted it to be. Full of celebrity cameos by Queer Eye's Fab Five, Ryan Reynolds, and more — plus some strong anti-homophobia messaging, and... because it's Taylor, a whole lotta easter eggs. We've decided to break them all down for you, so you can re-watch "You Need To Calm Down" for the millionth time and really get it this time.
We know, Taylor LOVES cats, this isn't an easter egg! Look closer and you'll see there's something a lil' different about this particular watch, though. See? There are THIRTEEN numbers on it. Asdfghjk... Taylor Swift's brain is TRULY something. We're not going to waste your time with listing out EVERY '13' ref in the "You Need To Calm Down" music video, but she wears a necklace with the number on it, too, and there are 13 stars on her blue jacket.
This has to be an easter egg, right? When Ellen is getting a tattoo, it clearly reads "Cruel Summer." We don't know exactly what this easter egg is pointing towards, but we've gotta think it's the name of an upcoming song. Perhaps the title of her next single? It's a very ~Taylor Swift~ word pairing, we've gotta say. Some think it's track five because of Hayley Kiyoko's arrow going through number five? Taylor stans don't quit and we LOVE IT. We'd be remiss though if we didn't mention Kanye West Presents Good Music Cruel Summer, a compilation album from 2012. Oh, yeah, and Ellen had the tattoo in the interview.
Remember Ryan Reynolds' cute painting part in the music video? If you squint, you'll see he's painting NYC's The Stonewall Inn, an iconic queer bar in New York City where "Pride" began when the safe space was infiltrated by a raid from the cops and a riot ensued after Stormé DeLarverie was attacked by police officers during the raid.
more to come..
