Fans Think Beyoncé Helped Halle Bailey With Her Little Mermaid Casting
She’s gonna be part of our world! On Wednesday it was announced that singer Halle Bailey had been cast as Ariel in the upcoming live-action version of The Little Mermaid. The internet erupted. (In some positive ways and in some, um, not positive ways.) Fans have taken to Twitter to express their feelings about the casting and some have developed a funny theory about why Halle was chosen to play the iconic Disney princess.
Halle, who is part of the R&B duo Chloe x Halle, opened for Beyoncé in 2016 and 2018 as part of her Formation and On The Run II tour. Chloe x Halle are also signed on to Beyoncé’s Parkwood Entertainment label. Fans have been pointing to this link between Halle and the superstar as evidence of Beyoncé using her power for good, and pulling some strings to get Halle cast as Ariel.

TBH, we can totally see Beyoncé, who plays Nala in the upcoming remake of The Lion King, using her platform to help other young, black artists. That’s like totally her thing. But we will say that Halle is super talented and she definitely got this role of her own merit.
