Stuart Townsend was Fired as Aragorn After One Day
Viggo Mortensen’s performance is perfect. He’s intense and angry, but also deeply vulnerable when he needs to be. It’s surprising, then, that Viggo almost missed out on the part. Stuart Townsend was originally cast in the role, but was quickly fired by director Peter Jackson.
Stuart was fired after only a single day of shooting, so the director didn’t waste much time on him. Peter apparently decided that he was too young for the role. It’s good that he noticed that quickly and was able to replace Townsend. Otherwise, who knows how all of these movies might have turned out?
