Peter Jackson’s plan for bringing this trilogy to life was not simple. Unlike most trilogies up to that point, where each film was made separately, Jackson wanted to make the entire trilogy at one time. Ultimately, that meant a shoot that lasted almost an entire year.

Peter was a pioneer in this space. Before Lord of the Rings, this kind of block shooting schedule had never been attempted. Now, it happens with some frequency. When Peter took the project on, he was doing something that he had never done before. He paved the way for many of the franchises that came afterward.
