Over the past year and a half, Taylor Swift fans (Swifties, if you will) have been through a lot. There was the release of Tay’s 6th album, reputation, which shattered records and marked the end of Swift’s first-ever music hiatus. She then embarked on the highest-grossing US tour of all time, and then turned that into an epic Netflix movie. What could she possibly do next? Release MORE music, of course!
Okay, there are a ton of theories surrounding Tay’s next move, so we decided to gather these theories into one handy guide that breaks down every reason why we might be getting some Swift-approved bops sooner than we might think. Yes, Taylor normally releases in the fall, but there are a ton of signs that point to her dropping some music just in time for the summer. And yes, we are excited. Of course, it’s all speculation, but it’s fun to dream, right?

Right as we speak, Tay, or should I say Bombalurina, is filming Cats in London. The movie, also starring James Corden and Rebel Wilson, is slated for a December release, which means that Tay has plenty of time to roll out an album before her feline persona reaches the big screen. Imagine having a movie and an album to promote at the same time! Seems ambitious, no? Good thing Swift is one of the most ambitious ladies out there.
As we mentioned before, king of carpools himself James Corden is also starring in the big screen Cats adaptation. Last week, Corden mysteriously tweeted about filming a carpool karaoke with a Grammy winner. We know he films these months in advance, so this could very well be a sign that she’s prepping for some promo. Sure, it could be for Cats, but...
Before the reputation era, Taylor released albums every two years like clockwork. Following that pattern would mean she's due for a release this year. Since she’s been steering away from her normal release schedule (and since she’s signed to a new label) she could very well be releasing a lot sooner than expected.
Supposedly, the pop queen was asked to open the 2019 Grammys, but she declined. Maybe it was because she only snagged one nomination (a straight-up insult considering the quality of the album), or maybe it was because she is gearing up to come back next year with something bigger and better? Who knows. All we know is that Tay is over her reputation era and is ready to move on — perhaps sooner than we think.
After winning big at the Billboard Music Awards last year, Tay mentioned that she’s excited for “the next chapter” which has kept fans on the edge of their seats. Could the chapter be sooner than expected? Taylor herself has mentioned that another album will be released before her 30th birthday, which just so happens to be the end of this year.
If you haven’t been keeping up with Tay’s whereabouts lately, don’t worry, we’ve got it covered. Swift was seen leaving a recording studio in NYC last month — where her pal and frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff works. Since she’s been so secretive about recording in the past and is now so open about it, it could be a sign that she is ready to be back out there. WE ARE READY TOO, TAYLOR.
Alright, this one is a little far-fetched, but it’s worth a mention. At the end of each of Tay’s “eras” she tends to hint about themes for the next one. Lately, she’s been posting a lot of mermaid-related content which has fans guessing there could be a water/ocean theme on her new album. She dressed up as The Little Mermaid for New Years' Eve, and at the end of her Reputation tour movie, she’s seen wearing a mermaid shirt. Who knows? Maybe she’ll be cast as Ariel soon.
Every fan knows that Swift loves to go on Tumblr, and is frequently lurking around the site. Swifties have been posting a lot about looking forward to new music, and Tay has been 'liking' and interacting with those posts. She’s not one to get her fans hopes up for no reason, right? That would just be mean and Taylor isn't mean.
The New Taylor is dead too, apparently. The reputation section of her official website has been redesigned, meaning the era is really over. Her merch has been discounted a ton, perhaps to get ready for more new products? Either way, you can get her famous snake ring for only $20 now. Tempting…..
This is what really does it for me. Taylor loves the number 13, so much that she put a special “13” stamp on only some months in her official 2019 calendar, leading some fans to believe that she will drop music around that time. Let’s break this one down, shall we?
The first stamp is April 13th, and rumors have been swirling that Taylor will grace the cover of Elle. Of course, it’s unconfirmed, but being on a big cover and releasing new music would be the perfect way to jump into a new era. Also the number '103' has always been a big one for her, and this is the 103rd day of the year. Seems like something Tay would want to celebrate in a big way... like, by releasing her first single off of TS7? We wouldn't be opposed.
One month later, there is another stamp on May 13th which has fans guessing that she might be dropping a single on that day, too. Odds are good that Cats will be done filming by that time, so Tay will be in the states to help promote.
The same stamp on all of the dates is featured on the entire month of June, which means Taylor must have SOMETHING MAJOR in the works for this whole month. Ugh, she's a literal genius. June is the perfect time for a summer banger to be released, right? Maybe a video or another single will drop this month, giving her the entire summer to reign the charts. Or... maybe the whole album? Seems like a dream but the rumor is that this album will come earlier than all her previous ones.
There are stamps on both the 13th of July and August, which has Swifties thinking that the album or a final single will be released on those two dates if it doesn't happen in June. If the album does drop in June, these could very well be music video releases. If she wants to be considered for the 2020 Grammys, she would have to release before the end of September, which means that the summer would be the perfect time to create hype over this album.
Weirdly enough, the next stamp doesn’t land on the 13th, but the 3rd of October. Mean Girls day, anyone? This could very well be a tour(!!!!) announcement(!!!!!), which she tends to do a few months before tickets go on sale. We wouldn't be opposed to a new music video on this date though, either.
This happens to be Taylor’s 30th Birthday, but we all know she loves to have some fun surprises on her big day. Her reputation tour tickets went on sale on her 28th birthday, and she might continue the trend. Of course, this is all speculation, and Tay could very well do nothing this year until the release of Cats. But with all this evidence, we'd have to be crazy not to think that she's got SOMETHING in the works. In fact, we're just going to refuse to believe anything besides we're getting music this year and we'll be listening to TS7 over the summer.
Fans are having a field day with this new Insta post, which clearly has all of the information we could ever want about TS7's impending first single. First, there are seven palm trees in the post, four on the right and two on the left with a giant one in the middle. Fans think the left trees represent her four country albums, the right trees are her two pop albums, and the tree in the middle is her biggest and best yet. Does this mean we'll be getting a country-pop hybrid album?! Be still our beating hearts!
There are 61 stars photoshopped onto the pic, which is the exact number of days between the photo being posted and April 26, a day rumored to be a single release day. April 26 also happens to be Arbor Day, and there's no such thing as a coincidence in TSwift's world. Cosmo has a rundown of all the far-flung theories fans have come up with about the standalone post (+ the kinda different font on Tay's website), and if it was anyone else, we'd assume these fans have a little too much time on their hands. But Tay knows her fans love to read into everything, and she's the type of icon that would absolutely give them something to find.
