Seeing major characters get the axe in book-to-TV adaptations has been the norm for a while now. And if we're being honest, we're not always thrilled about it (because who likes to see their favorite book characters get cut?). However, these changes could lead to more engaging and detailed storylines unfolding on the small screen. And if you really think about it, this gives the producers more freedom to experiment with the cast by exploring new back-stories, plot-twists, romances, and rivalries. And what better way to do that than by creating new characters?
A lot of producers like to take this route, but it can be tricky because if it's not done the right way, the entire series could go haywire (and there could be a major backlash from fans who know the books inside and out).
