17 Lessons Spongebob Squarepants Taught Us About Life
Depression Can’t be Fixed with Joy Alone
Spongebob is a very happy sponge. His life is, at least generally, quite good, and he’s always ready for whatever comes his way. Spongebob’s neighbor isn’t always so happy-go-lucky. Squidward is often annoyed by Spongebob’s antics, and that can make him seem like a wet blanket.
As strange as it may sound, Squidward’s lack of feeling and constant annoyance actually gave some kids their first taste of what depression was like. Even though Squidward lives next to the most joyous sponge on the planet, he can’t manage to share his neighbor’s attitude. It’s not enough to surround yourself with joy, and that’s an important lesson to learn.
