You should be glad you don't have anyone tying you down during these next three months. Summer is a time for going outside, socializing with new people, milking those longer evenings, and doing the things that make you happy. Who wants to be cooped up inside with one other person all summer long? Not us, that's for sure. If you're feeling a bit low about your singlehood right now, here are all the reasons you should be stoked you're single this summer.
We all need a good night in every once and a while, but you don't have to be in a relationship to enjoy one! Being single doesn't mean wallowing in front of the TV with a bottle of wine to yourself, get the girls around and have a wine party. You can do all the things most men hate doing — like eating a cheese board, drinking rosé, and watching trashy reality TV. Being single is the perfect time to reconnect with your friends (not like you should ever cut them off in the first place), so have a cheap night in that consists of getting wine drunk and catching up — you deserve it!
Did you think that being single meant you couldn't go on vacation this summer? Think again, ladies, because there's nothing more fun than going on a vacation with a big group of people. It doesn't have to be a singles party — get all of your friends together, whether they're coupled up or not, and book that wild vacation you've always wanted to go on. We're talking festivals, road trips, or even just a big boozy beach vacay. You're only young once and all that.
One of the best things about single during summer is that you can do you 24/7! You can make plans without having to consult anyone else — like those last minute nights out, weekends away, even house parties because you don't have to worry about anyone else having to work the next day (unless you have roommates, of course). Accept that after-work happy hour invitation and stay out as late as you want, girlfriend. Nobody will scold you for coming home drunk on a Tuesday, we promise.
Let's face it, being in a relationship is not cheap. You have birthdays, anniversaries, groceries and bills for two and don't even get us started on date night. Now that you're single, think about all that extra cash you'll have lying around! It could be an extra shot of espresso in the morning, upgrading to Spotify Premium, choosing next-day delivery on your Amazon order, or splashing that $50 on yet another high-end foundation, you deserve it! You could even start a savings account for your travel bucket list — every penny counts!
Just because you're single doesn't mean you've to go home alone every night and cry yourself to sleep — invite one of your gal pals over once a week for a girly sleepover like you used to do in high school. Order pizza, watch the movies your ex thought were dumb, and drink copious amounts of alcohol (now that's something you couldn't do in high school — legally, at least). Our advice would be to find another single buddy that you can do all the coupley things with — you'll appreciate each other lots.
Depending on where you live, the summer months can get freaking hot. Once temperatures reach 90, that's when society will start questioning whether or not a life partner — or even just a bed partner — was ever really that good of an idea. You, on the other hand, are single — hooray! That means no sweaty body pushed up against you in bed at night and no room temperature discrepancies. You like to sleep with the window open or want to blast the A/C? You do you, single lady — you're the captain of this ship now.
When you're in a relationship, it can be very easy to box yourself in and not get out and meet new people. This summer is the perfect chance to get out of your comfort zone and say yes to every invite. From 4th of July BBQs with more strangers than friends to pool parties and family weddings, there'll be lots of events this summer where you can meet people and expand your friend circle. If this was winter time, everyone would be cooped up inside with their partners, so seize the opportunity and go be a social butterfly — we believe in you.
Just because your single doesn't mean you shouldn't get some action! Did someone say summer fling? Sign us up! Like we said, summer is the perfect time to meet new people... if you know what we mean. Book that vacation to somewhere tropical with the gals and go have some casual flings with some lovely foreign bachelors — there's nothing better than a guilt-free, no-strings-attached summer hookup that you can look back on fondly. What happens on vacation stays on vacation, right?
It's a known fact that everyone just looks and feels better in summer. Your clothes are cuter, your skin is clearer (thank you, vitamin D), and chances are you'll be rocking a tan. We're not saying you should be trying to look good to impress other people, but impress yourself! When you're attending all those events with your new friends you'll want to ooze confidence, so the fact that you'll look bomb AF will definitely help. And if you happen to impress any potential suitors in the meantime, that's a plus.
Nobody likes a social butterfly who is constantly looking down at her phone. Now that you're single, you can really focus on living in the moment this summer and engaging with the people around you rather than continuously trying to text someone back. If you were in a relationship, you'd have to be letting your S/O know where you are, what you're doing, when you're coming home etc., but now that you're single nobody really cares where you are... and we mean that in the best way possible.
We all say we're going to do so much every summer, but do most of us ever really end up keeping our word? This summer you'll have lots of time to do all the things you've always wanted to do, from something as simple as reading all the Game of Thrones books to jumping out of a plane or swimming with sharks. Start a list of all the things you want to achieve this summer and feel that tiny spark of joy every time you tick something off — it's the little things that count!
A solo vacation might sound like the loneliest thing ever, but it can be a seriously liberating experience. Book a trip somewhere you've never been before, whether it's a different town or different country, and do some exploring. Make your own agenda — take a bus tour, eat dinner alone, read a book on the beach, and talk to strangers in a bar. Once you start to enjoy your own company then you'll be the happiest you've ever been.
There's nothing worse than being at a gathering that is seriously dying but your other half doesn't want to leave. We all have those nights when we can't think of anything worse than socializing, and this summer you'll be able to pull an Irish goodbye and slip out of a party without anyone noticing because you won't have a partner you have to convince to leave with you. When you're in the cab home with a slice of pizza you'll be sooo thankful you're forever alone.
Netflix and chill is all fun and games until you can't agree on what to watch and both parties are no longer chill. This summer you can spend your nights in watching whatever you fancy — whether it's binging every season of Riverdale in one night or watching Legally Blonde for the third time in a week. There's no bigger sign of a strong, independent woman than one who pays for her own Netflix subscription. You are killing it, even if you're secretly using your sister's friend's dads Netflix subscription.
Get back into/go for the first time — it's never too late to start going to the gym! Do something of substance with all that extra cash and time you have now that you're single and hire a personal trainer, join a gym, or meet more new people and join a pilates or yoga studio. You'll be sure to get those happy endorphins flowing and also add to the "looking your best" point we made earlier. This summer is all about you, your health and your happiness!
