Is it just us or was this the longest winter in recorded history? It feels like we've spent six months doing our best impression of that squirrel from Ice Age, and it's finally time to shave our fur (or don't, it's 2019 and no one cares) and have some fun in the sun. Before summer '19 is in full swing, we're dedicating our time and all of our money to finding the hottest swimwear the internet has to offer. Every fashion b*tch knows a bikini is useless without an equally epic cover-up, so we're sharing some of our faves just in time for your first beach Insta post of the season.
We love this cover-up from Forever21 because it could honestly just be worn on the daily, no waves required. It’s perfect if you’re in one of the ridiculous amount of wealthy beachside towns the world has to offer, from Newport Beach to Montauk all the way to the Amalfi Coast, because you’ll be just as ready to do some sightseeing as you will be to hit the waves. This olive color is one of our summer faves because neon is overdone, but it's also offered in black if you have a carefully curated aesthetic to maintain.

The amount of sarong options available online is truly overwhelming, but we can never seem to tie them as chicly as the fit models we see online. Until they start selling these little f*ckers with “How To” manuals, we’re going to stick with this sarong skirt from our favorite brand down under, MinkPink. This might look like a regular sarong to the untrained eye, but it’s actually a high-rise wrap skirt with a side tie so easy that even we could figure it out. It gives all of the summer sensuality of a sarong without the accompanying fear that it could fall off without warning at any given moment.

Free People is the king of California cool, which is what we should all be trying to emulate this summer season. Their Oceanside Romper is loose enough to cover that “I Just Ate My Weight In Watermelon” BBQ bloat while still showing a sexy hint of skin, and its burlap-adjacent knit is easy, breezy, and breathable. This romper is our go-to when we want to look effortlessly put-together but maintain our laid-back, earthy edge. It also looks great with a neutral tone bandeau for a casual post-surf brunch. Oh, and if you’re thinking you have no desire to spend eighty bucks on a cover-up, we know that URBN has some pretty juicy employee discounts if you want to finesse a “gift” from one of your long-suffering friends working retail 😉

Sometimes, simplicity is key. Sure, a romper is great if you’ve got places to be and people to see, but if you’re just looking for some subtle sun protection while you’re chilling on the sand, all you really need is a cute kimono. This lightweight tie-dye wrap from Urban Outfitters won’t overheat you in the blazing sunshine (or warm you up, if you’ve terribly miscalculated and ended up on a gloomy patch of sand), and its split sides will give you maximum breeziness for lounging in the sand.

Pretty Little Thing
Pretty Little Thing has, by far, the largest collection of beachwear we’ve seen online. Their offerings range from traditional sarongs and rompers to bold matching sets and sheer dresses perfect for a weekend day spent clubbing in Vegas. ICYMI, Sin City beach clubs abide by the “No Shirt, No Shoes, No Service” rule, which is a total bummer considering basically everything else is fair game. We highly recommend PLT if you’re planning on heading out West or if you’re a bold b*tch looking to make a statement. Clearly, this is one of the brand’s more conventional options, but we’re suckers for a waist-high slit.

Influencer darling Dolls Kill makes this short set that’s cheeky in more ways than one. If you’re the type of person who loves chasing clout and making a scene, you’ll love this hoodie’s dirty slogan and the “I Can Afford Dry Cleaning” BDE of wearing white velour sweats on sand. It’s perfect for those of us that live for gloomy beach days, early morning walks on the sand, and the serene salty air from the ocean late at night but also hate having cold arms.

If you’re obsessed with your bikini top and want it to be the star of the show, grab these flowy cover-up pants from Zaful. Similar styles are sold at Alo and other yoga stores for nearly a hundred dollars, but these will run you a little under thirty if you wait for the right sale (and on Zaful, it’s always sale szn). These open-side pom pom pants look even better IRL, which you can see from the dozens of reviews and photos on Zaful’s site, a clear way to tell that these beach-ready pants aren’t too good to be true. White is definitely a go-to summer classic, but these pants are at the forefront of the season’s newest trend.
